The strange case of Douglas Barker
Doug is is alive and recovering from the stroke. However, he is currently unable to make decisions for himself because a court order has placed him under guardianship against his will.
It has been reported that Douglas Barker, the only surviving owner of Buddy's Beer Barn after his wife passed away in late December 2022, is alive and recovering from the stroke. However, he is currently unable to make decisions for himself because a court order has placed him under guardianship against his will, which prevents him from making decisions for himself.
As widely referred to by his inner circle, ‘Doug’ suffered a life-changing stroke that affected the left hemisphere of his brain, which controls the right side of the body. It also receives information from the right visual field, control speech and language, as well as recognition of words, letters, and numbers.
The left hemisphere is the dominant part of the brain in 92% of the population. It is also responsible for analyzing complex situations, developing scientific skills, and reasoning among other functions.
Due to the devastating nature of the incident, his inner circle, led by Justin Duckett and his family, was supposed to be responsible for his medical and personal care as they were the closest to him and his wife and even had the legal authority to do so.
The Ducketts and the Barkers developed a family that grows way beyond the normal guidelines that define 'family' in the east side of El Paso, surrounded by the same community and common goals. They began working together on personal and business matters, building a bond and synergy everyone understood and appreciated.
As part of the same philosophy, they have also been committed to helping the community and improving our social surroundings so that everyone benefits from it. For example, they have provided space and support to local food truck owners to grow their businesses and support their business operations. The hardworking people in that group happen to be caught up in the middle of a fight that they had nothing to do with, but yet are yet another innocent bystander whose life was touched by seemingly greedy souls with dark motives.
Recently, Robert Barker, the estranged and conflicted brother, has been making allegations that have helped lean the legal case in favor of a big irregularity; depriving a disabled veteran of the ability to make decisions, after which he suffered this medical emergency, yet another blow to his life.
Furthermore, it is important not to forget that the man is now fully conscious but still cannot express his opinions on the events occurring in his life. For this reason, the campaign was named "Let Buddy Speak."
Douglas Barker, a longtime community advocate and business owner, is now facing a number of difficult challenges in adapting to life with different types of disabilities, such as being unable to speak on his own or not being able to move the body as freely as before, but he remains very strong and resilient. Additionally, he communicated with his friends and pals via video call and regular calls until he was isolated because he was blocked from access to forms of communication.
At that point, his estranged brother filed a complaint alleging that his partners were mistreating him and asked a court to intervene and "protect" his brother's assets. The same brother who was disconnected from Doug after attempting to benefit from their mother's estate in an unethical manner.
The reason that Robert and Douglas became estranged was because Robert Sued Douglas over their dead mother's estate when she passed away a few years back. Doug decided to distance himself from his brother since it was evident that his intentions were not based on brotherly love.
With a few minor modifications, the will was largely distributed in accordance with her last wishes. Due to these changes, Robert was able to obtain a few extra concessions from her recently deceased mother.
Douglas Barker is from the Dallas area, where these events occurred.
During that family interest, Robert Barker had the support of high-profile attorneys who were able to push in his favor. David A. Bonilla was one of the attorneys in that case, who just happens to be handling the current case as well.
The official website of his firm describes them as specializing in things such as trusts, wills, guardianship, real estate planning, and family law. Alternatively, he may do it all at once, like he did in his current case, involving allegedly shady individuals fighting over real estate so that they can enrich themselves a little more.
In addition, I noticed that Robert Barker, a retired anesthesiologist who has a license that expired over a decade ago, wrote to the El Paso court system claiming that he was still a physician, recommending that, based on his medical perspective, his brother was incapable of taking care of himself due to his disabilities and he was asking for a guardianship to ensure his brother's well-being in the meantime.
Interesting to note is that the judge intervened in their favor by placing Doug under Laura Holguin and her husband's guardianship. She owns "Private Professional Fiduciaries, INC" registered at 7350 Remcon, Suite 1, El Paso, TX, 79902, USA, but they haven't demonstrated any convincing proof that Doug is incapable of making decisions for himself.
There is a possibility the judge has not been presented with the historical evidence that shows the real intention is to benefit from the multi-millionaire property located on the Montana area owned by the disabled veteran.
It might be a good idea for someone to look deeper into the case and "Let Buddy Speak", as their campaign is called.
As a brain stroke survivor myself, I know what's happening more than anyone because I have lived through it and I know how hard it is to overcome such a life-changing event.
A brain injury may take years to fully manifest its consequences due to the complex nature of the affected area, so we have to be patient during this time.
When a cerebral blood vessel ruptures, the pain that immediately follows is so horrific that it is difficult to wish that on anyone, even your most vicious enemy. It is enough to knock out all of your senses and to cause you to lose your sense of gravity and your ability to make a logical decision. Your head appears to be on fire and is about to explode.
A brain aneurysm, also known as a cerebral aneurysm, is a bulge in the wall of an artery located around the brain. It is the constant pressure of blood flow that pushes the weakened section outward, creating a bump that resembles a blister. The aneurysm expands as blood rushes into this bulge. The same way a balloon gets thinner when filled with air, it becomes more likely to pop.
Immediately following waking, doctors can ask you a series of questions and administer tests designed specifically to evaluate your decision-making ability.
Following a few brain interventions in my case, I was unable to speak for two weeks after waking up. I refused to do it due to anger and pain rather than incapacity.
Nevertheless, despite my tremendous pain and confusion, as well as the fact that I continued to experience minor hallucinations every day, the doctors determined that I was conscious enough to make my own decisions.
If physical therapy is recommended for you, they may refer you to a rehabilitation facility or to your home for you to begin working on what you need.
In spite of the fact that my decisions were made out of anger rather than a logical response, they never deprived me of my right to make my own decisions.
Perhaps they didn't care about doing that because I didn't own a valuable property. I was never sued by my brother before my stroke over anyone's estate, and he did not take any property away from me after my stroke.
In the end, they did what was right, leaving me in control of my own decisions.
The same opportunity was not afforded to Douglas. In addition, his brother has attempted to dispute with him estate matters, even hiring the same legal team specializing in this area.
If you are willing to look beyond all of that, and just take a look at the facts, this survivor is still fighting among us, unable to speak, and adjusting to mobility and other disabilities, but he is fully conscious and able to communicate in several other ways to express his desires, after all, this is his story.
Doug was supposed to attend court regarding his guardianship on October 23rd, but he was not allowed to leave Bartlett nursing home due to people blocking the door.
There's a video on social media that was recorded that day showing a disabled man attempting to open the door with his arm half out but being blocked by several men. A scene from a Hollywood movie might seem bizarre, but this is a true story about a man who has made a significant contribution to El Paso and needs the community's help. Your assistance is urgently needed.
The judge may think he's acting in Doug's best interests without realizing that he's not. Possibly, the judge has not heard all of the facts and this injustice needs to be rectified.
Justin Duckett and his family have shown physical proof that none of the allegations against them are credible and continue to advocate for Doug to be permitted to participate in the decision-making process.
In their accusation, the opposition has only suggested that Douglas was being induced into a lifestyle devoted to "mushrooms and marijuana" and that he has taken advantage of by them.
As the owner of the classic "Buddy's Beer Barn", he's been a hippy all of his life and uses medication in an alternative manner that is generally not understood.
In some cases, prescription drugs can cause serious side effects, such as organ damage or addiction.
The use of cannabis has been found to be beneficial for a variety of disorders. and
Even though it may also cause side effects, they do not cause long-term damage and they often disappear once the dosage is adjusted.
The use of psilocybin therapy (the psychoactive ingredient in psilocybin mushrooms) is recognized as an effective method of treating a variety of mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, addictions, obsessive compulsive disorder, and psychosis.
The number of scientific studies showing the benefits of these drugs when used with a medical reason and for a medical purpose is extensive, however, some people prefer to use science and knowledge selectively.
A number of cases have been reported where lawyers and judges interfere with ill patients to place them under guardianship, and when the patient dies and the property is sold, local governments and dirty lawyers profit from the transaction. As much as I would like to believe otherwise, let's hope that this is not the case here and that no connection exists beyond the fact that both the attorney and the judge have the same political affiliation, Democrat.
While El Paso offers many opportunities for people, reporting the truth may not be one of them. This is because the same people who have been in power for the last twenty years usually do something in opposition to the people who are trying to maintain the truth and reality.
A city where corruption, embezzlement, abuse of power are an everyday occurrence requires that we remain defensive at all times to protect each other, as the authorities who are charged with enforcing the law sometimes act in opposition to the good people.
There have been several community advocates who have faced the consequences and backlash of being on the side of truth. Some have faced legal actions taken to discredit them, and others have been forced to leave their communities.
The intent here is not to steal any from Buddy, but rather to give the man the opportunity to express his opinion,
The goal of "LET BUDDY SPEAK" is to provide this senior disabled veteran with an opportunity to express his opinions about his life.
This campaign seeks to generate social awareness and mobilize people to speak out against this type of violence in El Paso because this is something that could happen to someone you know next. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you would like and share this story so that others may be made aware of it as well. Talk to your neighbors about this case so we can all be aware of what's happening around us.
About 140,000 Americans are killed by strokes each year in the United States -This is one in every 20 deaths - meaning that someone in this country has a stroke every 40 seconds and someone is dying from one every 3 minutes. The survival rate of 61% after three years, 5% after 16 years, and only 1% after twenty years.
Douglas “Buddy” Barker
I remember Buddy coming into our office, wanting to get more politically involved. He wanted for us to utilize his food court area to campaign and register voters. I went to his beer barn and he gave me hour long guided tour of the whole operation. Nice guy. So sad what is happening to him.
